Enjoy stitching this vibrant bougainvillea bonsai tree. We’ll do lots of knotted cast-on stitches and up- down drizzles including doing a two-tone drizzle with a small white knotted cast-on flower on top. This bonsai has an ornamental pot to stitch with layers of padding using multiple bullions, raised stem, and chain stitches. The outside layer of the pot consists of cast-ons, double-cast-ons, and faggotting stitches. The pot is filled with frilly drizzles around the base of the tree and spilling over the sides of the pot. The bonsai tree rests on top of a patterned tray done in heavy chain stitch. Even an accent plant, a mini bonsai tree is added to the design to complete the design.

Rosa pendulina, the Alpine rose, or mountain rose, is a species of wild rose found in the mountains of central and southern Europe. Three fully bloomed roses and several buds will make this a piece to treasure.

You will be supplied with a pre-felted wool ball to work on in class. The ball will be approximately 3 inches in diameter to fit a base of your choice. I would suggest procuring a cup for your first project, but you may use any base you choose. Thrift stores are great places to find a pretty cup. You may use any Brazilian threads you have on hand. I usually use Lola, but any BE thread will work and will be beautiful. I would suggest you try to match the threads you are going to use to the colors on your cup. Beautiful Brazilian Embroidery thread stands out on a felted wool ball, making a lovely pincushion, whether you use simple stitches or more advanced ones.

Class WA-2: “Ort Buster” Biscornu

Instructor: Debbie Kelley
Level/Intensity:   Intermediate/Medium-Low
Session Hours: 3               Session: 1 of 2
Designer: Debbie Kelley

The ORT Buster Biscornu! The French word “biscornu” means “of irregular or contoured in shape” in French. This one is made of felt with felt motifs embroidered/embellished on the surface. In most cases, a biscornu is embroidered and then constructed. For this class, the biscornu will be constructed first, then the motifs will be added. The goal is to have this cute little Ort Buster handy in your stitching area. When you are working on a project and have a stitchable amount of thread leftover, simply grab this handy little jewel and use that thread! Think of it as doodle cloth. When it is filled with stitches you will have a biscornu filled with stitch memories! The first session will consist of the construction of the form, choosing colors/patterns, planning the design, and stitch resources (RSN Stitchbank, your stitch book collection, Mary Corbett, etc.). The second session will cover tips and tricks to stitching on a rounded form (there isn’t a below or above fabric, it is all surface!). Stitches, possible corner décor (such as mini  thread skeins, decorated felt balls, tassels, etc.) If bright colors and paisley aren’t your favorite alternate colors/design will be available. Off white with pastel Jacobean-style flowers, a jewel-tone theme, and a few other possibilities will be offered.

Instructor: Debbie Goff

Level/Intensity: Beginner/Intermediate-Medium
Session Hours: 3 Hours                                              Session: 1 of 1

Come and live in the moment through the spiritual meaning, hope, and inspiration of the hummingbird. The hummingbird sparkles with colors of Accentuate blending filament added to the wings and tail feathers that are done in buttonhole and fill-in straight stitches. The hummingbird sports some ruffled feathers at the top of the tail feathers in alternating rows of cast-on stitches done in two colors. The body of the hummingbird is finished in short and long stitches of multiple colors with eyes of padded satin, outline, and straight stitches. The beak is a combination of hopper stitch and satin stitch. A lovely white flower is stitched alongside the hummingbird. Some branches, stems, and leaves lead to some flowers of multi-shaded pinks. The large flower contains a stumpwork group of petals on top of the background petals.

Holsten/Friesian cows are a popular black and white dairy breed known for their high milk production. Originated in Holland 200 years ago and brought to the US in the 1850’s. If not used for milk they can also be raised for beef. Other black and white breeds are Chinese, Danish, and white belted or white-middled Galloway.

Chloe’ is being raised to merely look beautiful in her straw hat and bow on her tail.

Class WA -1: Iris Garden
Instructor: Mendie Cannon

Level/Intensity:

Intermediate/Medium
Session Hours: 3 Hours

Session: 1 of 1
Designer: Mendie Cannon/Sharon Shetley

I have always enjoyed the Irises growing in my yard, but they are in bloom for such a short period of time. With this design, I can enjoy them all year long. Irises are an incredibly popular perennial known for their iconic shape and characteristically showy flowers. The name comes from the Greek name for the goddess of the rainbow, indicating just how varied the colors are in the species. Not only are the endless colors stunning, but they also have striking, architectural, sword-like leaves that grace the garden before and after the blooms are present.
